A very special visit

Today my parents came to visit. Laken was so excited, but I think my Dad enjoyed it best. 4 years ago my dad was in a horrible car accident. He was thrown out of the vehicles front windshield on I95 and survived. That is a freaking Miracle.
September 2009 my Dad was working as usual because that is what my Dad is and always has been is a worker. I got a call from my Mom telling me that my Dad fell off of a ladder almost 20 feet while putting a roof on a garage. He was in so much pain and spent many hours in the E.R while they tried to get him stable. Finally they placed him in a room where trauma doctors would need to keep an eye on him. He started off being very stable even though he did have a small brain bleed, 6 broken ribs(I think) a collapsed lung, broken bones in his back, a broken neck, and lots of cuts and scratches. That night before my Mom went home from the hospital, she warned the nurses that my Dad is tough like a Bull and that he will try to get out of bed. The nurses informed my Mom that there is no way at all that he could do that. She said the moment he would move it would pull on his chest tube and he wouldn't move. They said they would keep a close eye on him. In the morning my Mom called the hospital very early to see how his condition was and he was stable. A few hours later as we were getting ready to go spend the day at the hospital my Mom got a phone call from the hospital. They told her that they had a slight accident. My Dad got out of bed and had fallen and had to get staples in his head. To say my Mom was furious was an understatement. That night my Dad had to be put into ICU where he spent weeks being on a ventilator, unable to talk to us and not knowing if we were bringing him home ever again. Slowly he did begin to improve, but we had another thing to deal with once he was home. Again it was a huge shock to deal with when they told my Mom that he had a mass in his stomach and that it could be his Melanoma coming back. As horrible as this accident was, I believe the reason it happened was to find out about this cancer before it got worse. My Dad was in the hospital for 41 days. The longest 41 days of our lives. Once he was home, my Mom had to tell him that he had Cancer(for the 4th time in his life). He took it way better then I expected, but I know that he misses working and doing what he wants. I love him so much and am happy to see him spend time with my kids that I was so unsure he would ever be able to do again.
